No Public Observing tonight (4/7)

Even by New England standards, the run of cloudy weather we’ve had is unusual. Still, though, tonight looks to be another cloudy/rainy night, so we’ll have to cancel public observing. Hopefully next Thursday night will be better!

Public Nights restarting this week!

After almost exactly 2 years away, we are finally able to resume public observing, starting this week. We will be observing every clear Thursday of the Spring 2022 term, starting Thursday, March 17, 2022.

You can find the whole term schedule on the Schedule Page.

Because of ongoing COVID restrictions on campus, public observing is open to members of the Bennington College campus only. We hope, soon, to be able to open to the larger town community, but we do not yet know when that will be.

So, for members of the college community, public observing will be this Thursday, March 17, 2022, starting at 8pm EDT at Stickney Observatory.

As always, we can only observe if skies are clear, so please make sure to check this page after 5pm to see if we’ll be able to observe.

Public Observing Status – Fall 2020

We have made the difficult but necessary decision to not hold in-person public observing during the Fall 2020 term. In leiu of in-person observing, we are hoping to run a few “virtual” observing nights. Keep an eye out for information about those.

We are looking forward to the day when we can get back to sharing the night sky with visitors in person. We will be carefully monitoring public health advisories to determine when it’s safe to open again. Our hope is that we will be open some time in the Spring of 2021, but it will depend on the course of the pandemic. We hope you all are well and are getting out whenever you can to enjoy the night sky!
