No Public Observing tonight (10/13/22)

Unfortunately, it looks like it’s gonna rain tonight so we won’t be able to observe. We’ll try again next Thursday (Oct. 20) at 7 pm! Check back here beforehand OR check out the Clear Sky Chart for Stickney Observatory to make sure the weather is cooperating!

Observatory will re-open in late September

The observatory is closed for the summer, so we can do maintenance and students can carry out summer projects. We aim to re-open in late September, after the Fall term resumes.

No observing tonight (5/19)

Unfortunately the skies don’t look like they’re clearing up for tonight, so we wont be able to observe. This is our last scheduled night for the term. The weather has been quite poor this term, but we’ll be back in the Fall; look for observing to restart in late September.

Have a great summer!

No Public Observing this week (April 28)

In a bit of supreme irony, the weather forecast looks great for this Thursday. However, because of the current COVID case counts on campus, we cannot hold in-person public events this week. Hopefully things will work out better next week!

No observing tonight (4/21)

Observing is cancelled for tonight due to clouds. We will try again next week. Because we’d like to observe and Thursdays have been so miserable this spring, we are looking to add “bonus” observing nights in May, as weather allows. They’ll be announced here, so keep an eye out.

No Public Observing tonight (4/14)

No. We don’t have a bot that simply copies the same post from one week to the next. However, the post this week is the same as last week — clouds and the threat of thunderstorms mean that we have to cancel observing for tonight.

If you’re wondering about the tools we use to predict clear nights, part of it is just looking out the window, but we also make serious use of the Clear Sky Chart for Stickney Observatory. Take a look and you can see when it’s going to be clear, too!

No Public Observing tonight (4/7)

Even by New England standards, the run of cloudy weather we’ve had is unusual. Still, though, tonight looks to be another cloudy/rainy night, so we’ll have to cancel public observing. Hopefully next Thursday night will be better!

No Public Observing tonight (3/31)

Our recent weather pattern has really been limited clear nights. Unfortunately, we need to cancel again tonight due to cloudy skies. Hopefully next Thursday (April 7) will be more clear! We’ll start at 8:30pm next Thursday if the weather allows.
